I seriously doubt that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is the man to lead the Democrats in opposition to all things Trump. The thought first occurred to me when I saw him and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi standing next to a Make America Sick Again sign to make their case against the repeal of Obamacare.
Now that is a message that many of us apply directly to Schumer and Pelosi themselves. It is also pathetically witless. As the Democratic leaders seek to reach beyond their base, you have to wonder if they have any sense of self-awareness or public relations.
Yesterday Schumer sought to sum up the Democrats’ assault on Trump’s cabinet nominees. “This is a swamp cabinet full of bankers and billionaires,” Schumer asserted. And like the neighbor in Frost’s famous poem about walls, he liked having thought of it so well he says again, “A swamp cabinet full of bankers and billionaires” (video below, about 30 seconds). Yet Schumer looks like the creature from the black lagoon and he sounds like he looks. The rest of Schumer’s shtick condemning HHS nominee Tom Price is yanked back from the 1980s for reruns. Schumer’s material is so tired he seems to have trouble keeping himself awake.
