Here's the list of the 6 Republicans who I have been told will likely be voting to override the Governor's veto when the time comes.

(A source close to Rep. Abler called and said that he cannot support the bill in its current form. They cited a story in the Anoka Newspaper last week. I am looking for the story. Abler did vote for the 2007 Transportation Bill and against the Veto Override.)

Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, argued that some of his district residents are taxed enough now financially. “There is money out there but it may not be as much as you think,” he said.

Indeed, Abeler, a moderate Republican, said he could not support the proposed transportation finance bill because of its proposed half-cent metro sales tax increase. (Source)

If anyone has someone else we should worry about, please pass along their name.

If you are on the list above and I have been ilinformed, please let me know that you will sustain any veto to increase taxes, and I will remove you.

The DFL is trying to ram huge tax increases through and we can't let Republicans waiver. Our state does have enough money, the Legislature has been wasting it on unneeded programs and handouts for years and years. There is no reason to raise taxes just to do the primary mission our state government, especially at a time when our state is facing a recession.

If we truly do have the transportation crisis the DFL is claiming, they shouldn't play politics with solving it. We shouldn't be forced to pay for their years of mistakes and neglect of our highway system. Please call and email all of these Republicans and tell them to vote to sustain the veto and not to give into the liberal tax and spend Democrats.

I have more info that I will hopefully be able to post tomorrow. I have some detective work to do, but if it pans out, there will be heck to pay for some wayward Republicans. Given that BPOU endorsement conventions start this weekend I believe the conservative base of the Republican Party needs to know just who Republican Legislators are siding with at the Capital.

I'd strongly urge all Delegates and Alternates to have their Legislative candidates and officials sign the Veto Protection Pledge from the Taxpayer's League before they face endorsement!

Please stay tuned to True North, but get on the horn in the mean time.
