I'm not talking about phony liberals like John "50,000 square foot mansion" Edwards, John "villa in France" Kerry or Ted "the Compound" Kennedy. I'm talking about the grass-roots losers. I'm talking about people who think it's just okee-dokee to tell people how to live and screw the unintended consequences. The answer to the question is quite simple. It's arrogance. It's an unwarranted belief in both the Liberal's superiority and the average person's stupidity. In the case of Blue StateMinnesota this tendency borders on pathological. There is a driving force behind the mentality that feeds the NannyState. It's conception is generally accomplished in the university system that has become a fortress for the Marxists of the 1960s. That system is so far removed from the real world that it is possible to incubate, in it's insulated and single-minded environment, the kind of people who would adopt such arrogance and educate them to a degree enabling them to put it into practical application. In this artificial world (funded largely by the real world it disdains) tender young minds can be molded into a homogeneous unit focused on the concept of collective and community. These robots are always easy to spot, because they use code words like community and appropriate. They claim to be "progressive" while espousing antique policies and regressive taxation. Their inculcated contempt for society is directed into an irresistible need to reform that society in the artificial mold presented to them as "reason" and "justice". Ah, Justice. This is the Holy Grail of the modern Leftist. It hasn't changed much since the days of Marx. The childlike belief that the World should be fair is at the heart of this philosophy. Have you ever heard the term Economic Justice? That is the fairy tale these children have been read. That's why rich people are bad for being rich, the powerful evil because they have achieved power, the successful deserving of penalty for their success. It's just not fair! This shibboleth of Economic Justice allows an otherwise moral person to justify taking from someone who has earned and giving that booty to someone who has not. Robin Hood was always sexy to this mind. Morality be damned, we have situational ethics now. The conceit of this person is rooted in ignorance. Ignorance of the real world, with it's demands and rewards. Ignorance of the engine of economy and it's demands and rewards. Ignorance of the horrific consequences of the application of the "solutions" they wish to impose. This conceit is a symptom of a pathogen that is spread to the young and naive by older victims and vicious charlatans. It is embroidered with education and fertilized by a cynical world view. It has found a willing host in the Minnesota DFL. |
