Today, November 11, is Veterans' Day - a day set aside to honor those who have served in all branches of our great military. What so many people do not understand is this: Our veterans and our current military members are what keep us free, protecting that First Amendment clause so touted by leftist/liberals/etc. of "free speech." While the pen may be mightier than the sword, the pen is useless without someone with the courage to wield the sword when necessary. Monday evening I heard "Hansi" Hirschmann speak. She told of her first experience meeting an American GI at the end of WWII in West Germany. She'd been taught to believe American soldiers were very bad - was petrified when she realized the light in the building she'd run to after dodging Russian snipers while running through a "no-man's land" was an American barracks. The GI who opened the door was a big guy with a gun - the image she'd been raised to hate. But she and her friends needed help, fast. As she said, "I'd been brainwashed to fear American soldiers but we needed help so I went inside; 'I'll fight him later'." Soldiers across earth are trained to attack; American soldiers are trained to defend freedom. We must remember this - thank a vet! Attend a ceremony! Vets and soldiers are our last bastion against anarchy - they are our foundation of freedom.
