Mind the Gap

“Disappointing numbers were released Thursday, showing the achievement gap between white students and students of color in Minnesota remains far apart” reads the headline.  One might think it embarrassing that such a progressive and tolerant state as Minnesota has one of the largest gaps in educational achievement between white students and students of color, but of course embarrassment and hypocrisy are alien concepts to progressives. So is doing what works, or seeing reality for what it is. Thus we have statements like, “What is the actual purpose of [these] test[s]? What’s it measuring?” You’re getting into the mode of always getting ready for another test rather than learning the skills necessary to achieve.” Criticisms like this imply that “teaching to the test” is not an adequate education, and that may be true.
