Time for new names

"One more thing which is vitally important. There is no 'sitting this one out'. You need to choose which side of the divide you fall on. If you don't, and the Tories win the day, that choice will be made for you. You will have gone from a citizen to a subject. Just like back in the early 1700's."

When is a name not really a name? When it does not mean anything anymore. Currently, two of the most vapid and empty names in our verbal landscape are Republican and Democrat. Republicans have split into two groups - conservatives and RINOs. And Democrats? They really went off the rails. They went from Democrats to greenies, to progressives, to secular socialists, and yes - some to full out communists. Truthfully? This all makes me dizzy and confused.
The other day I put something on social media. I had been in deep rumination about why and how anyone in their right mind could support the Metropolitan Council. Then it dawned on me. Since the Met Council practices taxation without representation, the only people who could support them, would be like the early settlers who supported the British during the Revolutionary War. In other words - Tories.
Because the new left is heads over heels in love with government, just like the Tories were with the Crown, Tories should be the new name for the Left. If I am wrong on this, please let me know. But what about the Right? Is not conservative good enough? Not really. Many who call themselves conservatives, betray the meaning of the word. So, once again we need to reach into the past.
The country was founded on a group of people simply known as Patriots. The Patriots were the polar opposite of the Tories. In fact, the in-fighting between the Tories and the Patriots was so fierce at times, some historians are calling that part of the Revolutionary War our first civil war.
Today the Right and Left (or now the Patriots and the Tories) are at each other's throats once again. Just like in the Revolutionary War days, the great divide between the two sides is deep and treacherous. The Tories would like to scrap this outdated Constitution, take our guns, and then eschew all religion - everywhere. Their only deity would be government. All forms of government. And to that deity, all rights would be assigned.
The Patriots on the other hand, are for the most past originalists. They honor the Founders as wise and loyal sages. The Constitution is for the most part, sacrosanct. The thing about having some of our citizens referred as property, or only valued as 3/5 of a person, have long ago been fixed. The rest of it is as good as gold.
One more thing which is vitally important. There is no "sitting this one out". You need to choose which side of the divide you fall on. If you don't, and the Tories win the day, that choice will be made for you. You will have gone from a citizen to a subject. Just like back in the early 1700's.
