The war over sanctuary cities

"The time to fix the sanctuary issue should be concurrent with fixing the "dreamer" issue, chain migration, visa lottery, and of course - the wall. Get to it Congress. The clock is ticking."

The other day, an official from the Justice Department (I did not catch his name as I turned the TV on too late), was having a presser discussing the MS 13 gang issue. He in not uncertain terms, spelled out this gang issue for what it is, and where it is in our country. It was pretty scary.
They come in with the rest of the illegals and immediately "set up shop". Since they are a trans-national gang with many affiliates, the new arrivals are soon connected into the web. What can be done about this problem? Turns out, not much if you live in the wrong city.
This morning on the news, it was reported that ICE and the NYC cops are going toe to toe over apprehending illegals. It seems that ICE forgot that Comrade de Blasio (the east coast's version of "Moonbeam") had to remind the NYC PC that his city is a "sanctuary city", and therefore "hands off" to the feds. NYC is a safe harbor where the lawless come for R+R, with no worry about the law. In Long Island alone, the Justice Department believes there to be almost 800 MS 13 gang members.
MS 13 is the most common gang. However, there are more gangs - many more. This is like a dream come true for them. As bad as NYC is, it is far worse in California. The entire state has been deemed to be "sanctuary" by Moonbeam. One might wonder how this works. How can you harbor a federal fugitive in a state? Which law trumps the other law?
I think this thing is coming to a head sooner rather than later. Murder after murder that illegals are committing on legal citizens have reached the tipping point. And now we have a President who feels as strongly about getting control over this situation, as Moonbeam does keeping it out of control.
How will this end? Maybe by federalizing the National Guard in sanctuary cities or states. Maybe by arresting Mayors or Governors. We are either a nation of laws, or we are not. My feeling? ANYONE who is here illegally, should be immediately deported (sans the "dreamers"). Once deported, should that fence hopper be caught again, it is five years in a federal pen and then deported again. The time after that, 10 years. Obama's "catch and release" program has worked about as well as a screen door on a submarine.
This issue is far from over. In fact, I think in the next few weeks it will heat up quite a bit. Immigration discussions are going to be front and center in the Congress now that the two year budget has been agreed to. That is, it they don't screw up the appropriations in the next six weeks.
