Allahpundit at Hot Air discusses Senator Al Franken's* national high unfavorable rating (44%) in a recent Rasmussen poll:

Like it or not, this guy’s bound to be our new lightning rod so you might as well familiarize yourself with his oeuvre for easy snarking later, when he inevitably pops off on the Senate floor and the righty blogosphere piles on. Exit question: Why are his national ratings so low? It’s possible, I guess, that more people than we think have been following blog coverage over the years of what a weird, oddly irascible jackass Franken is. It’s also possible that the numbers are driven by conservative reaction to his “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot” book. Even so, I prefer to interpret it as a referendum on his SNL “Weekend Update” bits. Be honest: Having watched those, would you have a favorable opinion of the guy?

Unfortunately, the numbers of a 60-vote Democrat majority in the U.S. Senate are a cold reality unless conservatives from both camps vote for common sense, and until seats are taken in 2010. Still, it's encouraging that Americans are not approving of a new far-left senator* who will enable more far-left legislation.

About that *.
