Remember in the movie The Matrix when Neo is talking to the kid at the Oracle's place about the spoon? The kid tells him to bend the spoon in the Matrix, he needs to understand the spoon does not really exist.
Well, Rep. Tim Walz (D MN1) must be running for reelection to the Matrix world, or has seen one too many scifi movies. In a PostBulletin story he has the following statement that should scare the pants off everyone.
"This idea -- this red herring -- that all of a sudden you're going to drill and everything is going to be better, as if the market fundamentals are at work here -- that's not happening," Walz said. "These are the same people that are (getting) $40 billion in profit."
"As if market fundamentals are at work here"...
The guy doesn't even understand supply and demand. No wait, he's running for reelection to the Matrix world. Yeah, there is no market there, and actually turning a profit is considered obscene. Unless of course you're the Government who actually raked in more of a profit on oil and gas than the oil companies did.
If it is obscene for oil companies to make so much off the sale of oil and gas, wouldn't it be as obscene for anyone else to profit even more from the sale of oil and gas?
In contrast, federal and state taxes on gasoline production and imports have been climbing steadily since the late 1970s and now total roughly $58.4 billion. Due in part to substantial hikes in the federal gasoline excise tax in 1983, 1990, and 1993, annual tax revenues have continued to grow. Since 1977, governments collected more than $1.34 trillion, after adjusting for inflation, in gasoline tax revenues—more than twice the amount of domestic profits earned by major U.S. oil companies during the same period.
Folks, that doesn't even include oil company income taxes. And remember the money involved here is coming straight out of our pockets, both the oil profits AND THE TAXES COLLECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT!
Rep. Walz is just another Washington liberal spewing contradictory talking points. He says there is no market at work in the beginning of the story, but at the end .... enter the Pelosi talking points.
"They have got 68 million acres of leases that have been issued. They are sitting on the ability to drill 80 percent of the Outer Continental Shelf, and yet they're not doing it," Walz said. "It's almost as if they are happy to keep Americans paying $4 a gallon for gasoline."
So drilling more would actually help lower the prices there Rep. Walz? (the 68 million acres talking point is part of the Washington Democrat political gameplan. Fact is there isn't oil on those acres)
Which is it Rep. Walz, the market or the talking points? You can't have both....
Maybe this will help your talking points make sense Congressman Walz.
Repeat after me: There Is No Market. There Is No Market. There Is No Market.
