Monday morning, I received an email announcing that State Sen. Pat Pariseau was retiring after serving SD-36. This evening, I found out that the opening caused by Sen. Pariseau created an opening that Dave Thompson will fill. Here's Dave's statement announcing his candidacy:
Dave says, "I have spent my entire adult life engaged in the public policy debate. I am looking forward to being able to express my views and vote on behalf of the constituents of Senate District 36. Just like the federal government, Minnesota needs to return to limited government, and focus on a business friendly environment. Good jobs can only be provided by healthy businesses.
I am honored to have the endorsement of Senator Pat Pariseau. Her faithful work on behalf of her constituents and all Minnesotans provides a good example to all elected officials."

A couple weeks back, I mentioned that DFL State Senate Candidate Ron Case was campaigning for office in his Oak Point classroom on the local "Democratic Visions" cable-TV show.
After a concerned citizen asked EP Schools to look into the matter, the Principal of Oak Point acknowledged that Mr. Case was indeed using his classroom for "political activity for personal gain" and has taken "corrective action" against Mr. Case. Here's the email:

Update-Parry wins big!
Mike Parry won by 13%, despite a third party candidate that garnered 20% of the vote. That is an almost numerical doubling of the win percentage of this seat 3 1/2 years ago, when Dick Day won by 9%.
Special election update-
With 42 of 47 precincts reporting, GOP endorsed Mike Parry halds a comfortable lead in the SD 26 special election.
No word yet from the DFL on the false advertising they ran during this campaign, but fear not. If they don't offer an explanation, they may be forced to.
In a Senate District with two DFL house Reps, the Democrats could not take advantage of a special election to pick up another senate seat.
It is going to be a good year for conservatives. |

Tomorrow is the special election to replace Dick Day in the Minnesota Senate. Either afraid of the tea (party) leaves in Massachusetts, or just desperate to pick up a senate seat, the Minnesota DFL has resorted to an attack ad that uses a blatant lie to try to scare voters.
As I posted on True North last week, the MN DFL ran radio ads claiming that the Republican endorsed candidate, Mike Parry, wants to cut 30% from nursing home budgets. The ad claims a 15% state budget cut advocated by Parry would somehow lead to an automatic matching 15% cut from the federal government, making a total 30% cut to Minnesota seniors.
Not content to lie just on the radio, the MN DFL doubled down on the lie with a new attack ad that I just received in the mail today. Look at this and tell me this is not attempt to make people scared-
