True North Election Coverage

True North will be the premier election information location. We're currently working on the most comprehensive election and political information sections out there.

This is however a work in progress, and will be constantly updated. Our goal is to please political junkies, and make ones out of the rest of you.

As we work on the True North daily coverage of the various 2008 races in Minnesota, please feel free to get acquainted with who is currently elected by browsing the right sidebar here. As the election and next legislative session progress, the links and contact information will become more and more useful.

Republican US Senator Norm Coleman (Incumbent)
will be taking on Democrat Al Franken
and the Independence Party's (former) US Senator Dean Barkley.

All 8 US House seats are up this year.
Democrats currently hold 5 of the 8 Congressional seats.
Republicans are defending an open seat due to Jim Ramstad's retirement.

There are 2 Special Elections due to retirements in the Minnesota State Senate. One Democrat seat and one Republican seat will be decided in November. Democrats currently have a veto proof Majority 45 to 22. If Republicans pick up both seats, they will be able to sustain a veto again.

All 134 Minnesota House seats are up for election this year.
Democrats currently have an 85 to 48 Majority, with 1 Independent Republican
(I-R Mark Olson retiring due to Endorsement and Primary losses)
If Democrats garner 90 seats, (Republicans lose 5 more seats)

they will have Veto Proof Majorities in both Houses of the Legislature
and can override Gov. Pawlenty at will on party line votes.
