Republican US Senator Norm Coleman (Incumbent) Democrat Al Franken The 2008 race is in triple overtime as the recount and contest phases play out. (click the image above for more info and coverage of this race) All 8 US House seats were up in 2008 with no changes in party. There are 2 Special Elections due to retirements in the Minnesota State Senate. One Democrat seat and one Republican seat will be decided in November. Democrats expanded their veto proof Majority 46 to 21. Former House Rep. Mark Olson ran as a write in candidate, drew over a 1000 votes, and allowed the Democrat to defeat the Republican candidate by less than 100 votes. All 134 Minnesota House seats were up in 2008. No Constitutional Offices were up in the 2008 election cycle.
