Acting is a nice childish profession - pretending you're someone else and, at the same time, selling yourself. - Katharine Hepburn
This week saw two theatrical acts in Minnesota: MN For a Fair Economy’s “Corporate Bandit Rally” at the State Capitol, and “Gay Barbarians” glittering the counseling clinic of Marcus Bachmann (husband of Presidential candidate Michele).
Via Talking Points Memo:
A "barbarian horde" of LGBT-rights activists traveled to Marcus Bachmann's counseling center in Minnesota Thursday, chanted lyrics from a Lady Gaga song, demanded to see Bachmman and when he didn't show up, glittered the waiting room. The group was led by the same LGBT-rights activist who glittered Newt Gingrich back in May.
People are taking their causes seriously – but not for the reasons they might think. That a counseling clinic is invaded by diva princess warriors and showered with glitter, or the State Capitol is the venue for dressed up drama queens shows a profound lack of tolerance for those whose views differ from theirs.
I’ll say it again: tolerance works both ways. What if that wasn’t glitter confetti in the containers? These thugs threaten a private business and demand acceptance. They’re amped up and ramping up — and those on their hit list need to be prepared to protect themselves.
Two comments at The Blaze offer more key points:
If I had done the same to an office of some gay-rights group I would be arrested and prosecuted for a hate crime.
For the record, I’m gay. I find this crap to be utterly stupid. Not only is it vandalism and disturbing the peace and whatever else the law should be able to throw at them, it is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. These idiots aren’t winning anyone over to their side or making any friends. The average straight person sees this kind of “activism” (it really is barbarism) and thinks “I have nothing in common with these freaks.” So you all know, MOST gay people are NOT LIKE THIS. Most of us do our jobs and quietly go home to our lives and ask nothing but to be free to live our lives without interference from others. These idiots give us all a bad name.
Michele Bachmann, God bless you. Keep doing the great work of putting our country back on track. Michele would make an excellent president and I’d vote for her in a second.
If a cause is important to you, start a blog, a political PAC or run for office. Putting on a costume, storming and vandalizing offices for attention is not helping your cause. Keep it up, and your next act could play out in jail with a civil lawsuit.
