I attended a conference this evening hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas. This conference featured one conservative Republican (Scott Johnson of Powerline blog) and one liberal Democrat (Mark Rotenberg) on questions of the Global War on Terrorism, Israel, national security, the upcoming presidential election and the oil shortage.

It was a bit disarming to note some of the spontaneous responses from a few in the audience when Scott Johnson made some stark points. Laughing-out-loud sounds were heard merely because Scott offered his perspective that reacting to terroristic attacks with 9/10 methods of law enforcement are proven as failed and that if and when a President Obama brings a return of deadly attacks upon our country, President Geo. W. Bush's administration will be looked upon with fondness.

And then there were guffaws when Scott offered John Bolton's name as a good candidate for Secretary of Defense in a McCain administration.

The facts don't matter to people who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome. And sadly, this combination of naivette, hatred and an unwillingness to see events for what they are, is a deadly and explosive mix.
