Democrat Bloggers charge racism, freedom of speech violations, and heavy handed tactics by DNC Committee.

It ripped through the blogosphere for weeks this spring. The culmination was an actual article highlighting the controversy in The Washington Post. The charges of racism occurred just after the announcement of credentialed bloggers to the DNC Convention. The blistering attack came from Francis Holland.
....all-white state blogging corps is birth of a new "white privilege".

Has the DNC consulted with the 20% of the Convention delegates who are Black to determine whether they approve of this color-based caste system? Of course not! However, unless the floor blogging caste system is either immediately scrapped or broadened to include a representative number of Blacks and Latinos, then many afrosphere bloggers will continue a determined and concerted nation-wide campaign to bring this new color and ethnicity-based blogger caste system to the attention of all of the Black and Latino delegates to the Democratic National Convention, as well as state Democratic Party elected officials, the media and the public, so that the entire nation can participate in deciding what should be done to rectify the virtually all-white "Jim Crow" floor blogger corps of the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Then other independent bloggers started to chime in on the DNC approved bloggers that were appointed to the convention. The DNC apparently went in favor of groups they know will post their talking points without anyone straying from the party line.

DNC Credentialed Blog List Is Out

With this announcement today, it appears that all we will have to look forward to in August locally will be Blue’s standard fare of party approved/generated stories and press releases along with some “look who I saw” photographs thrown in for good measure. Oh well, there is always 2012…

The stunning culmination was not the charges laid out against the DNC. It was their response as stated by Natalie Wyeth.

Bloggers Say DNC List Lacks Racial Diversity

Natalie Wyeth, spokeswoman for the convention committee, says criteria for selecting State Corps bloggers were readership, on-line ratings and focus on local and state politics. The General Pool will also be selected on the basis of readership and on-line ratings, she adds, with an emphasis on bloggers covering "national politics to niche issues of interest to specific communities."

Race was not a factor in the selection of the State Corps, Wyeth repeatedly says.

It was a shocking revelation. Was The Obama magic a reality?  This new age of democrats embracing market based systems just might deliver bi-partisan support for a plethora of issues.  I started to imagine the implications on drilling to increase domestic supplies of energy. The universal goal of “living in a nation where people are not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” was on the verge of being achieved.

Apparently a moment of weakness occurred for Ms. Wyeth as I contacted the DNC to get further clarification.

As quickly as my hopes and dreams about this new era had been elevated; they were dashed.  The conclusion to this firestorm was the following post.  It requires no additional comment other than to say: It is politics as usual!

African American Pundit: Will Blog LIVE At The DNC

OK, my email box  has been on full blast over he past few days. Thank you everyone for the congratulatory emails.

I'm a man of faith, and my mother taught me to always thank God for the blessings you receive. So today I want to thank God for the blessing I received. I am appreciative and proud of the fact that the Democratic National Convention staff have chosen me and other members of the AfroSpear (black blogger think tank) and the larger Afrosphere (black bloggers around the United States & World) to cover one of the most significant events in over 400 years of African American history.
